Two years ago, on January 27th 2010, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs took to the stage to unveil one of the most rumored device the company has ever concocted, an iPad. At the time, the critic and analysts were quick to mock the name, criticize the shortcomings of the device and predict that while an Apple name would sell the product, it wouldn’t create a new market.
But, they were wrong. The device was an immediate success and quickly became the fastest selling gadget of all time.
The iPad, or it had been imagined the ‘iSlate’, was unveiled at an intimate event in San Fransisco on Jan 27th, 2010. the tablet was pitched as a new category of device that would fit between a smartphone and a notebook, while presenting distinct advantages.
“it’s so much more intimate then a laptop and so much more capable then a smartphone”, Jobs said.
In the run up to the event, the speculation reached new heights over what exactly Apple would announce. The world has settled on the fact that it would be a tablet, but the details on what that would entail were all over the place.
As a company, Apple had just its most successful financial quarter ever and sold 15.4 millions of iPad. Apple CEO Tim Cook that he can envision a time when the tablet market will be larger then the PC market, at least in numbers of units sold.
